Where they stand
In their own words, from their campaign website, summarised in plain English.
Economy and cost of living
Sand says he will focus on lowering costs and growing the economy as governor. He says he will create a program letting state employees who can work from anywhere live in any part of Iowa, to help revive small towns and rural communities.
Taxes and government spending
Sand says he will restore the State Auditor's ability to find misspent tax dollars and work to prevent waste of taxpayer money. He also says he would stop sending tax dollars to private school vouchers and bring more oversight to that spending.
Health care
Sand says he will reverse the privatization of Medicaid by executive order, the same way it was put in place. He says his office found many illegal denials of care under it that raise families' out-of-pocket costs.
“As Governor, Rob will **reverse the privatization of Medicaid the same way it was passed – by an executive order**.”

Education
Sand says he wants to add universal all-day pre-K, paid for by ending the private school voucher program. He says he would also push for more oversight of the hundreds of millions of dollars spent on vouchers each year.
Foreign policy and defense
No stated position on their website.
Elections and ethics in government
Sand says he supports a public primary open to all eligible voters, with the top four candidates advancing to the general election regardless of party. He says the general election should use Approval Voting, where voters can vote for as many of the four as they approve of. He also says he will restore the auditor's watchdog role and keep rooting out corruption.
Ratings and endorsements
No ratings: the groups we track score votes in Congress and endorse federal candidates, and we have not collected ratings or endorsements for governor candidates.
