Terms of use

1. Who we are, and acceptance

The site at semblen.com ("Semblen" or "the site") is operated by Semblen LLC, a Texas limited liability company ("we", "us"). These terms are a contract between you and Semblen LLC. Acceptance: you accept them by submitting text, a link or a video for analysis — the analyze form says so beside the button — or by otherwise using the site. If you do not agree, do not use the site.

2. Who may use the site

You must be at least 13 years old. If you use the site on behalf of an organization, you represent that you may bind it to these terms.

3. What Semblen is

Semblen is an automated tool. It analyzes text — news articles, video transcripts, political ads and text you paste — for rhetorical and manipulation techniques, surfaces historical background, and checks factual claims against sources it retrieves.

4. What its output is — and is not

• Every flag, label, explanation, background note and claim verdict is produced by software. It may be wrong, incomplete or out of date.
• A technique flag is a judgement about how language is used. It is not a statement of fact about any person or organization, not a finding that anything is false, and not a judgement of anyone's motives or character.
• A claim verdict describes what the sources we cite say about a claim. It is an opinion based on those disclosed sources, which you can read for yourself, and not a judgement of truth.
• Nothing on the site is legal, financial, medical, electoral or professional advice. Read the original material and make up your own mind.

5. Contesting a result

If you are the author, sponsor or subject of something analyzed here and believe a result is wrong, you can contest it: use the Agree / Disagree buttons where they appear, or write to [email protected] with the page address and what is wrong. A person reads these. We correct or remove results we find to be mistaken.

6. Third-party content

Articles, videos and political ads analyzed here are the property of their authors, publishers and sponsors. We reproduce only the excerpts necessary for the analysis, criticism and commentary we publish — the passages a finding rests on — with attribution and a link to the original. Political ads are drawn from public sources, including Meta's Ad Library and sponsors' public video channels, and the "Paid for by" line is the sponsor's own. If you own content shown here and believe its use is not permitted, write to the address above or to Semblen LLC, 5900 Balcones Drive STE 100, Austin, TX 78731 with the page address; we review notices promptly and remove content where the law requires. 7. What you submit

You are responsible for what you submit. Do not submit material you have no right to share, or personal or confidential information. By submitting it you grant Semblen LLC a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to store and process it to run the service, and — as the analyze form states and the privacy policy describes — to evaluate and improve our models. You may withdraw the latter by asking us to delete what you submitted.

8. Acceptable use

• Do not use automated means to run analyses or claim checks, or to copy the site in bulk. Automated clients are refused, and limits apply per visitor.
• Do not try to disrupt the site, get around its limits, or use it to harass anyone.
• Do not present Semblen's output as a statement by Semblen LLC that a person or organization has lied or broken the law. It is not one.

9. Termination and right to refuse service

We may limit, suspend or refuse access to the site, to any visitor, at any time and without notice, including for a breach of these terms. Sections 4, 6, 7 and 10 through 15 survive.

10. Availability and changes

The site is offered free during its beta. We may change, limit or withdraw any part of it, including daily limits on analyses and claim checks, at any time.

11. No warranty

The site and everything on it are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Semblen LLC does not warrant that any output is correct, complete or current, or that the site will be available or error-free.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Semblen LLC and its members, managers and agents are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising from the site or reliance on its output, however caused. Our total liability for all claims relating to the site is limited to one hundred US dollars (US$100).

13. Indemnification

You will defend and indemnify Semblen LLC and its members, managers and agents against claims, damages and costs, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising from what you submit to the site or from your breach of these terms.

14. Governing law and venue

These terms are governed by the laws of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The state and federal courts sitting in Travis County, Texas have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute relating to the site or these terms, and you consent to their jurisdiction and venue.

15. General

Severability: if any part of these terms is held unenforceable, the rest remains in effect and the part is enforced to the extent the law allows. Entire agreement: these terms and the privacy policy are the entire agreement between you and Semblen LLC about the site, and replace any earlier terms. No waiver: our not enforcing a term is not a waiver of it. Assignment: we may assign these terms; you may not.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we do, we will change the effective date above. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept it.
