My name is Elena Morales. I am a deportation officer with ICE. This job is important to me because I feel that it helps to educate the public from a more personal view, especially with uh family members here in the border community.
We have a lot of people who really don't know what exactly ICE does. I think the assumption is that we just go and pick up people and and that's it. But having somebody closer to you, closer to your family, knowing the process as far as, you know, the immigration portion of it is really important to help the public understand that it's not all about separating families.
It's not all about taking people away from their homes. It matters because it is important to have a liaison, if you will, with the community. Just having your friends, your family, co-workers, um, anybody really who has questions about what ICE does because not everybody knows.
Everybody has this misconception of we're just out here to deport people and separate families.
