HSI's top five Here are five top cases highlighting the impact and dedication of HSI teams across the globe. Number one Through the coordinated efforts of Homeland Security Task Force and HSI special agents from Chicago, Bogota, and Madrid, a dangerous cartel leader is now behind bars for 19 and 1/2 years. And over 1,300 kg of cocaine, weapons, and illicit funds have been taken off the streets.

Number two In San Diego, HSI special agents working with HSTF partners uncovered a major cross-border tunnel operation. Their coordinated efforts and swift action led to four arrests and the seizure of over 1,000 kg of cocaine, proving once again that HSI stands at the front lines of border security and drug interdiction. Number three In Texas HSI Corpus Christi special agents, partnering with the US Border Patrol, acted swiftly to arrest a repeat offender who tried to sneak an unaccompanied 11-year-old boy through a border checkpoint by pretending to be his parent.

Number four In New England, HSI special agents led a landmark investigation that brought a former state official and his co-conspirator an active daycare worker, to justice. Resulting in a 33-year and 22-year prison sentence for egregious child exploitation crimes. Number five In New York, HSI special agents and the HSTF scored a decisive victory against the opioid crisis, locking up a repeat trafficker for 50 years for his involvement in an online counterfeit pharmaceutical conspiracy scheme that distributed fentanyl-laced pills that took a life.
