.@USAttyEssayli on today's Operation in Skid Row: "Individuals that we targeted in today's operations are selling drugs to homeless people. They’re keeping the homeless addicted to hard drugs—we're talking fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, and PCP…The drug dealers are very sophisticated. They know when the homeless get their public assistance benefits payments; they get them on the 1st and the 15th, and they’re there like clockwork. They're there in their fancy cars, selling the drugs and collecting the cash. Some of it we saw in today’s operation."

Today I'm going to talk about our operation in Skid Row. As you know, Los Angeles is home to Skid Row, where nearly 5 ,000 homeless people reside. It's the epicenter of the worst homeless crisis in our nation. Despite billions of dollars being thrown to fix the problem, the homelessness issue has only gotten worse, and the number of people who are there homeless continues to rise. We're going to talk about why that is We're going to talk about... today. One of the main reasons is because individuals that we targeted in today's operations are selling drugs to the homeless people. They're keeping the homeless addicted on hard drugs. We're talking fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, and PCP. PCP is particularly troubling. It's a mind -altering hallucinogenic drug, and it explains a lot of the psychotic episodes you see the homeless people experiencing there the psychotic episodes. You see the homeless people... on the street. The drug dealers are very sophisticated. They know when the homeless get their public assistance benefits payments. They get it on the 1st and the 15th, and they're there like clockwork. They're there in their fancy cars selling the drugs and collecting the cash. Some of it we saw in today's operation. We are naming today's operation Operation Scapes Save Skid Row. It's a joint narcotics and Save Skid Row. It's a joint narcotics investigation between the Homeland Security Task Force, which comprises of the agencies I announced earlier, and LAPD. We had over 300 law enforcement officers from LAPD, FBI, DEA, ATF, IRS, and the United States Marshals, and others out there today. We are executing 28 arrest warrants and 44 search warrants. So far, we have 22 individuals in custody. The others will be found and arrested shortly.
