Semblen Pro
A daily digest of the news you follow, with the manipulation marked.
Pick the outlets you read and the topics you care about. Each morning Semblen checks those outlets for new stories on your topics, analyzes them, and emails you what it found: which stories use loaded language, name calling, appeals to fear and other manipulation techniques, the exact words, and why.
Free for 14 days. No card needed to start.
What you get
- Your outlets. Choose from 131 outlets: national news and opinion, plus local outlets in 14 states (Alaska, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas). More states are being added.
- Your topics. A word or short phrase each: a race, an issue, a person, a place. A story is picked when its headline or summary mentions one.
- One email each morning with the new stories. For each: the outlet, the headline, a link to the article, the passages where a technique was found with the words marked, and a one-line reason.
- The full analysis one click away. Every story links to its full analysis on Semblen, with historical background and claim checks.
- A preview before you commit. The setup page shows which of this week's headlines your choices would have matched, so you can tune your topics.
What an entry looks like
A story with nothing found is listed too, marked "No technique found". A day with nothing new sends nothing.
What it costs
One plan. You choose how many stories a day your digest can carry.
Prices are in US dollars, plus tax where it applies. Sold through Stripe (shown at checkout as "Link"); we never see your card. Cancel any time from your account page, and change how many stories you get whenever you like.
How to start
- Sign in with your email or with Google. That creates your account; there is no password.
- Choose your outlets and topics, and check the preview.
- Your digest is free for 14 days, up to 5 stories a day. No card is asked for. To keep it after that, pick a plan on your account page.
What it is not
- It does not rate outlets or tell you who to trust. It shows wording, story by story; what you make of it is yours.
- It does not say whether a story is true. A technique is a property of the wording. Claim checks are on the full analysis page.
- The model is sometimes wrong. In our audits of news stories, roughly one flag in ten was wrong. Every passage is quoted so you can judge.
- It cannot read every outlet. Only outlets whose feeds we can read are on the menu, and stories behind a paywall are listed by headline.
- It is not available to political campaigns, parties or political action committees.
What stays free
The analyzer, today's analyzed news, the political ads index and government statements are free to use, with no account. Pro is the part that does the reading for you every day. If Semblen is useful and you'd rather just help, you can also support it.
