Where they stand

In their own words, from their campaign website, summarised in plain English.

Economy and cost of living

Janoo says she wants to build Vermont's economy from the bottom up by investing in local businesses, farmers, workers and cooperatives rather than recruiting outside corporations. She says she would redirect existing economic development subsidies toward this, create a Vermont Public Bank and an Office of Community Wealth Building and Economic Resilience, and expand apprenticeships and local purchasing by state institutions.

Accurate?

Taxes and government spending

Janoo says she would fund free primary care through a "Fair Share Tax Proposal" asking the wealthiest Vermonters to contribute the equivalent of the cuts from the Big Beautiful Bill. She also says she would tax private equity, large corporate housing, second homes, vacation rentals and luxury estates to cut resident property taxes, and tax digital advertising, data monetization, large online marketplaces and AI infrastructure.

Accurate?

Health care

Janoo says she wants to make primary and preventive care free for every Vermonter by eliminating copays and deductibles and paying providers directly instead of through fee-for-service billing. She says she would put a community health team in every community and see this as a first step toward universal healthcare.

“Guarantee free primary and preventive healthcare for every Vermonter by eliminating copays, deductibles, and insurance barriers”
Accurate?

Social Security and Medicare

Janoo says she would expand aging-in-place programs, accessible senior housing and community health teams so older Vermonters can stay in their homes and communities. She also says she would keep care available close to home despite pending federal Medicaid cuts.

Accurate?

Immigration and the border

Janoo says she would defend immigrants as part of protecting Vermonters' civil liberties and freedoms. She also says she would bar AI from being used for immigration surveillance and enforcement monitoring.

Accurate?

Abortion

Janoo lists reproductive freedom among the constitutional freedoms she says she would protect. She also says she would prevent AI from being used to monitor reproductive healthcare.

Accurate?

Energy and climate

Janoo says she would place a moratorium on AI data centers and oppose the new nuclear power infrastructure proposed to support them. She says she would invest in community-owned renewable energy and clean technologies, and build a climate-resilient food system.

“Place a moratorium on AI data centers and make clear that Vermont is not for sale to the AI industry.”

Crime and policing

Janoo says she would ban surveillance technologies such as Flock cameras and prohibit predictive policing. She says she would end homelessness through a Housing First approach with voluntary mental health and substance use treatment.

Accurate?

Education

Janoo says she would oppose school consolidation and closures and instead invest in community schools that also provide health care, mental health support, childcare and food access. She says she would place coordinators in participating schools and expand vocational and technical education.

“Instead of consolidating our public schools out of existence, we will protect and invest in them as the foundations every child, family, and community needs to thrive.”

Elections and ethics in government

Janoo says she wants to make Vermont the most democratic state in America. She says she would create citizens' assemblies, expand participatory budgeting, advance a Future Generations initiative with long-term goals, and give towns more authority and resources.

“Together, we can build the most democratic state in America by protecting our freedoms, giving every Vermonter a meaningful voice in the decisions that affect their lives, and returning more power to our communities.”
