Where they stand
In their own words, from their campaign website, summarised in plain English.
Economy and cost of living
Kreiss-Tomkins says he wants to lower housing costs by cutting red tape, unlocking state land for building, easing rules on manufactured and modular homes, and setting up a governor's housing task force with faster permitting. He also says he would create ways to tax second homes owned by nonresidents and would not spend tax dollars on megaprojects that don't meet critical needs.
“Bring down the cost of housing by cutting red tape so we can build affordable homes where Alaskans need them most.”
Taxes and government spending
Kreiss-Tomkins says all Alaska oil and gas producers should pay corporate income tax, naming Hilcorp alongside ConocoPhillips. He also says he wants to balance the budget and put the whole Permanent Fund under constitutional protection from overspending.
“Hilcorp should pay its fair share just the way ConocoPhillips does.”
Health care
Kreiss-Tomkins says he would outlaw excessive drug price markups and require hospitals and drug companies to disclose their prices. He also says he would partner with tribal health organizations to secure more federal funding, expand in-home care for seniors and people with disabilities, and broaden the scope of practice for nurse practitioners and similar providers.
Social Security and Medicare
Kreiss-Tomkins says he would expand in-home care so seniors and people with disabilities can stay in their own communities. He also says he would defend seniors from AI-enabled scams and deepfakes.
Immigration and the border
No stated position on their website.
Abortion
Kreiss-Tomkins says he would defend Alaska women's right to choose and ensure access to contraception.
“Defend Alaska women’s right to choose.”
Energy and climate
Kreiss-Tomkins says he supports developing all energy sources, including renewables, hydro and natural gas, to lower utility bills. He says he would require Railbelt utilities to cooperate, back an Alaskan natural gas pipeline, and oppose a second LNG import terminal in Cook Inlet. He also calls for a moratorium on new data centers until the legislature passes regulations, and says data centers should pay the full cost of their electricity.
“Support development of _all_ energy sources — renewables, hydro, and natural gas — to lower utility bills for Alaskans.”
Guns
No stated position on their website.
Crime and policing
Kreiss-Tomkins says he would fund and equip police, fire and emergency medical personnel and fund the Village Public Safety Officer program in rural Alaska. He also says he would arrest and prosecute perpetrators of domestic violence and sexual assault, and dedicate law enforcement support to missing and murdered Indigenous people cases. He would ban Flock cameras and similar AI mass-surveillance technology statewide.
Education
Kreiss-Tomkins says he would fully fund schools and pass a constitutional amendment to fund education a year ahead. He also says he would pay teachers fairly, create a defined benefit retirement system for teachers, and fund sports, electives and extracurriculars.
“Pass a constitutional amendment to “forward fund” education and put an end to the awful annual budget guessing game.”
Foreign policy and defense
No stated position on their website.
Elections and ethics in government
Kreiss-Tomkins says he would remove political spending power from the powers Alaska grants its corporations and reinstate campaign contribution limits. He also says he would ban foreign junkets for state officials, appoint only qualified people to boards and commissions, require disclosure of AI in political ads and prohibit misleading deepfakes, and protect voters' personal information from federal intrusion.
“No foreign junkets.”
Ratings and endorsements
No ratings: the groups we track score votes in Congress and endorse federal candidates, and we have not collected ratings or endorsements for governor candidates.
Money
