Where they stand

In their own words, from their campaign website, summarised in plain English.

Economy and cost of living

Walz says she would declare Nebraska "Open for Business Again," bring industry leaders together on a 10-year plan to grow the economy, and focus on attracting new businesses and growing small and medium-sized ones. She also says she would make price gouging illegal and work to lower housing and childcare costs.

Accurate?

Taxes and government spending

Walz says she would target property tax relief to homeowners, farmers and small businesses rather than out-of-state billionaires and large corporations, expand the homestead exemption to the first $100,000 of valuation, and slow valuation increases. She says she would oppose new taxes on food, water and medicine, hold a two-week gas tax holiday, and match the federal policy ending taxes on tips and overtime.

Accurate?

Health care

Walz says she would treat health care as part of economic development, expand health-care workforce training with universities and community colleges, and support rural care through telehealth, mobile services and better coordination among providers. She also says she would encourage more mental health professionals to work in underserved areas and address the cost of long-term care facilities.

Energy and climate

Walz says she would support investment in ethanol and the bioeconomy and back public power districts in growing the state's power infrastructure. She also says she would create a statewide strategy to track new developments' effects on energy and water supply while leaving local communities to approve or decline them.

Guns

No stated position on their website.

Accurate?

Crime and policing

Walz says she opposed calls to defund the police and would support first responders and law enforcement as governor. She says she would also invest in mental health services, job training and other services to reduce homelessness and prevent crime.

Accurate?

Education

Walz says she would reject any form of school voucher, put more emphasis on reading proficiency, and work to recruit and retain teachers. She also says she would expand apprenticeships and dual-credit courses, increase affordable childcare and early childhood education, and find a consistent way to fund schools while lowering property taxes.

“Reject any and all forms of school vouchers to follow the will of Nebraska voters.”
Accurate?

Foreign policy and defense

Walz says the national tariffs have closed markets Nebraska farmers built over decades, and that she wants an aggressive approach to open new markets for agricultural products, manufactured goods and services.

Accurate?

Elections and ethics in government

Walz says she would raise the legislative vote threshold needed to overturn a ballot initiative and veto attempts to ignore voters' will. She also says she would enact a nonpartisan code of ethics, publish the governor's calendar and public records, hire an independent auditor, and limit no-bid contracts.
