Economy and cost of living
Ryan says his top priority is economic relief for Hudson Valley families. He points to bills to lower grocery prices, a four-bill housing plan to lower mortgage rates and cut building red tape, and cosponsoring the Paycheck Fairness Act and the PRO Act.

Ryan says he wants to end the cap on state and local tax deductions (SALT) and pushed for an expanded child tax credit. He also says he wants middle-class voters to get a tax cut and billionaires and big corporations to pay their fair share, and he notes he never raised taxes as County Executive.
“The SALT Tax cap is blatant double taxation on hardworking Hudson Valley families and it has to go.”
Ryan says he wants to lower health care costs, and he introduced a bill to make lower-cost generic drugs easier to produce. He also cosponsors bills on insulin and drug prices, and backs bills to protect IVF access and require insurance coverage of some fertility treatments.
“Healthcare costs are out of control for Hudson Valley families and I’m spearheading efforts to lower them.”
Ryan says he will protect Social Security and Medicare benefits. He introduced the Protecting Social Security Act, which would permanently bar benefit cuts, condemn raising the retirement age, and require a Social Security field office in every county.
“Our seniors worked hard to earn their Medicare and Social Security – I’m fighting every day to protect these vital programs.”
Ryan says he has called for more funding to harden border security and to help border patrol stop fentanyl trafficking. He cosponsors bills to staff border agencies, and his office helps constituents with immigration cases.
“I’ve maderepeated calls to increase funding to harden our border security and for our border patrol to combat the trafficking of illicit fentanyl into our country.”
Ryan says he supports reproductive rights and wants to restore the protections of Roe v. Wade. He introduced bills to codify access to abortion medication and to stop use of the Comstock Act, and he cosponsors the Women's Health Protection Act. He opposes a national abortion ban.
“He will stand against a National Abortion Ban and fight to re-establish the protections guaranteed by Roe v. Wade.”
Ryan calls climate change the greatest threat to the country's future and says he wants investment in electric public transit and green-careers job training. He also says he stands against big polluters, and as County Executive he committed the county to 100% renewable energy by 2030.

Ryan says he wants to end gun violence and backs an assault weapons ban, universal background checks, red flag laws and safe-storage rules. He also supports bans on ghost guns and bump stocks.
“I’m proud to cosponsor the Assault Weapons Ban and Ethan’s Law for safe gun storage.”
Ryan, an Army combat veteran, says he fought for a 4.5% pay raise for servicemembers and a 14.5% raise for junior enlisted troops in the defense bill. He also supports a bill on China financial threats and cosponsors measures against fentanyl coming from China.
Ryan says he wants to protect the right to vote and cosponsors the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act. He says he will not tolerate politicians who lie, cheat or steal for their own benefit, and he says he will stand against extremist attacks on democracy.
