Question: Should the Constitution of Virginia be amended to (i) remove the ban on same-sex marriage; (ii) affirm that two adults may marry regardless of sex, gender, or race; and (iii) require all legally valid marriages to be treated equally under the law?

Virginia publishes no official arguments for or against. The Department of Elections publishes a neutral explanation for voters (present law, proposed law, effect of a yes or no vote) for each amendment, which is not an argument and is not recorded.

Committees registered to support or oppose Question 2, and what they reported to Virginia Department of Elections Campaign Finance Reporting (cfreports.elections.virginia.gov; bulk files apps.elections.virginia.gov/SBE_CSV/CF). Checked 2026-10-21.

Before comparing the sides: each committee’s figures come from its own latest report, so they can cover different dates. Some committees work on more than one measure or other campaigns, and their totals include all of it. A side with no registered committee can still have supporters. How much a side raised says nothing about whether the measure is a good idea.

A rhetorical technique is about wording, not about whether a measure is a good idea or an argument is true. Ballot wording is written under each state’s own rules, and official arguments by the people the state names. All Virginia measures →
