Economy and cost of living
Jackson says working class people are being crushed by a rigged economic system and he wants to deliver tax cuts for the working class while making corporations pay their fair share.

A Republican lawmaker alleged Jackson violated legislative residency requirements and possibly committed mortgage fraud by claiming an Augusta home as his "principal residence" on a federal loan while representing a district 300 miles away. Jackson denied wrongdoing, saying Allagash remained his home.

A resurfaced 1988 Fort Kent police report alleged that Jackson, then 19, kicked in a door and punched a man, and that his then-girlfriend (now longtime partner) Lana Pelletier told police he had "pushed her around" afterward. Jackson acknowledged the fight but denied ever being violent with Pelletier, and Pelletier denied making the statement attributed to her.

Multiple sources told CNN and the Washington Post that Jackson threw a plastic water bottle during a heated 2021 Senate Democratic caucus meeting, and a female lawmaker present said she felt he was aiming to hit her, which frightened her enough that she later cited it in deciding not to seek reelection. Jackson's campaign acknowledged throwing the bottle but disputed it was aimed at anyone, and said he apologized at the time.
